Sunday November 27th – Week 4 at Huddersfield Hawks
The #5 ranked Sheffield Hallam Warriors (2-0) will be heading across to Huddersfield to take on the Huddersfield Hawks (0-1). The game will be a tough challenge for both teams; Hallam will look to maintain their momentum heading into a possible ‘top of the division’ clash with Hull next week while Huddersfield to avoid another embarrassing loss at the hands of the reigning champions.
This is the Hawks fifth season in the league; and under new head coach Greg Boyland, the Hawks have got off to a miserable start, losing heavily to the Sheffield Sabres in Week 1 (50-0).
The Hawks struggled to move the ball on the Sabres in Week 1 and may struggle again this weekend against the vaunted Warrior defence. Led by New Zealand standout Manuaiua Bebopatupauia, and helped by the likes of DE Nathan Morrow and LB Marcus Holland the Warrior defence held the Bombers to only 33 rushing yards.
Last week the Warriors rolled up a whopping 647 yards, compiling 97 points in the process and carved up a Lancaster team that was riddled with injuries and short on numbers.
The Hawks defence are certain to have their hands full trying to keep Hallam RB phenom, Danny Pyle from continuing to gain huge chunks on the ground. Last weekend Pyle ran for 185 yards and three touchdowns on his first four carries.
The Warriors will look to establish their new found passing attack behind the arm of Quarterback Jacob Muncey, who is starting this week in the place of injured Chris Webber. Muncey has experience under centre, having tossed two touchdowns last weekend so you can figure he’ll get a crack at the Hawks secondary.
The Hawks have been opponents of the Warriors on four previous occasions, yet to come away with a victory. The Hawks have had two weeks to prepare for this fixture, will this be the year they buck the trend?
History and form would suggest not but stranger things have happened…
